Michael A. Zimmer was born and raised in southwest Minnesota. After serving four years in the Marine Corps, he graduated with honors from Winona State University. He then attended law school at the University of Minnesota, where he graduated with honors in 1982.
After law school Mike practiced with a small firm in Waseca, Minnesota for five years. In 1988, he moved to the Twin Cities area where he practiced at Arthur, Chapman & McDonough and then Schwebel, Goetz & Sieben. In 1994, Mike joined Mike Tewksbury and Keith Kerfeld to found the law firm of Tewksbury Kerfeld Zimmer, PA. In 2006 Mike founded the law firm of M.A. Zimmer Law. He limits his practice solely to representing plaintiffs in personal injury and death cases which arise as a result of automobile accidents, defective products, construction accidents, professional negligence and other matters.
Mike is certified as a civil trial specialist at both the state (Minnesota Bar Association) and national level (National Board of Trial Advocacy). There are approximately 24,000 lawyers in Minnesota. Currently, only 326 have been designated as Certified Civil Trial Specialists.
Mike is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. The purpose of the organization is to foster improvement in the ethical and technical standards of practice in the field of advocacy and to preserve the civil jury system guaranteed by the 7th Amendment of the United Stated Constitution. The organization is unique. You must have a significant amount of actual civil jury trial experience in order to qualify for membership. Then, you must be nominated by a current member and voted into the organization by members of the local chapter. Under those circumstances, ABOTA is considered to be a prestigious trial organization.
Mike Zimmer has also been named as a Superlawyer by Minnesota Law & Politics. The designation is based upon a vote by lawyers in the state of Minnesota. Minnesota Law & Politics sends out about 18,000 ballots to lawyers throughout the state. The voters are asked to vote for those personal injury lawyers they view as being the best in Minnesota. Once the vote is in a blue ribbon committee reviews the list and a selection committee makes the final cuts. The list represents only 5% of Minnesota's licensed lawyers. Mike has appeared on the lists of Minnesota Superlawyers in Minnesota Law & Politics, Business Monthly, and Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine. Mike was voted as one of the top 40 Minnesota personal injury Superlawyers in 2004. In 2006 Mike was named one of Minnesota's 15 Lawyers of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer Magazine.
Mike is licensed to practice in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Arizona.
